Congratulations to This Week’s Stakes Champions at Woodbine



The weekend of September 13-14, 2025 served up some outstanding performances at Woodbine Racetrack. The connections of the following horses deserve hearty congratulations for their stakes victories. Proud to recognize these champions on behalf of the HBPA.

September 13, 2025



1. Notable Speech (GB)

  • Race: Rogers Woodbine Mile (G1T)

  • Trainer: Charlie Appleby

  • Owner / Breeder: Godolphin (UK)

  • Jockey: William Buick

  • Details: Notable Speech rallied strongly in this Grade 1 turf mile event to capture the prestigious Rogers Woodbine Mile, part of the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” series.



2. Corsia Veloce

  • Race: Johnnie Walker Natalma Stakes (G1T)

  • Trainer: Josie Carroll

  • Owners / Breeders: Glenn Sikura (Hill ’n’ Dale Farms) & Mario Serrani; bred in Ontario

  • Jockey: Fraser Aebly

  • Details: Corsia Veloce remained unbeaten through three starts with this impressive Grade 1 win in the Natalma, earning a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

  • Owner: David S. Romanik

  • Details: The 2-year-old colt by Nyquist closed strongly to take the Summer Stakes, another “Win and You’re In” for the Juvenile Turf at Del Mar.


  1. Branded Cities Vigil Stakes (G3)

  • Trainer: Katerina Vassilieva

  • Jockey: Rafael Hernandez

  • Owner: Chiefswood Stables Limited (Ontario homebred)

  • Notes: Simcoe worked hard early, took the lead, and held on for a 1¾-length victory.



  1. Ontario Matron Stakes (G3)

  • Winner: Caitlinhergrtness 

  • Trainer: Kevin Attard

  • Owner: WinStar Farm LLC

  • King’s Plate winner is back on her game in the Ontario Martron Stakes.

4. Souper Diva


  • Race: Victorian Queen Stakes (Ontario-sired 2-year-old fillies)

  • Trainer: Steven Chircop

  • Owner: 6 Deep Stable

  • Jockey: Jose Campos

  • Breeder: Northern Dawn Stables Inc.

  • Details: Continuing her strong form, the Ontario-bred filly sprinted to a clear victory in the Victorian Queen, showing maturity and consistent speed.



5. Silver Is Best


  • Race: Bull Page Stakes ($100,000, 2-year-old colts and geldings, Ontario-sired)

  • Trainer: Bill Tharrenos

  • Owner: (not explicitly stated in article, but Silver Is Best is under trainer Tharrenos)

  • Jockey: David Moran
