Opening weekend at Woodbine Racetrack marked a steady and professional start to the 2026 racing season, with several familiar and emerging names getting off to positive beginnings.

Among those to make an early impact was jockey Ryan Munger, who recorded multiple wins over the weekend and continued to build on his momentum from last season. Trainer Debbie Rombis also got off to a strong start, sending out runners that were ready to perform early in the meet.

Opening weekend also highlighted the continued contributions of all backstretch staff, whose day-to-day work ensures that horses are ready to compete. From grooms and hotwalkers to assistant trainers and exercise riders, their efforts remain a key part of the industry.

On behalf of the HBPA, we would like to thank all horsepeople and participants for their work in getting the season underway.

Congratulations to all winning connections over the weekend, and best of luck to everyone as the meet continues.
