Cheering Section – The 50th Hendrie Stakes, July 5, Woodbine

The Grade 3 Hendrie Stakes headlines Woodbine's race day on July 5 and it is the 50 running of the Tapeta sprint at 6 1/2 furlongs for fillies and mares.

The Hendrie is named in honour of George C. Hendrie, who was president of the Ontario Jockey Club from 1963 to 1971. His grandfather and father, William and William Jr., each was president of The Ontario Jockey Club as well.

This year's field for the Hendrie is intriguing not just for the starters in the race but for the glaring lack of early speed in the field, Last year's Hendrie winner Gal in a Rush is back but she is an off-the-pace runner who is going to need some luck.

Leading trainer Mark Casse and his team have three gals entered in the Hendrie and one of them, Ticker Tape Home, is the only Ontario bred in the field. Bred by the famed Sam-Son Farms, Ticker Tape Home, by Medaglia d'Oro, looks poised to have a peak effort in her third race of 2025. Jockey Patrick Husbands figures to utilize his mount's natural speed and she may prove tough to beat.
