Winterberry Powers to Fury Stakes Victory, Casse Sets New Record

June 7, 2025 – Winterberry delivered a sharp front-running performance to capture the $125,000 Fury Stakes at Woodbine, giving trainer Mark Casse a record-setting ninth win in the race for Ontario-bred 3-year-old fillies.

Breaking alertly from the gate, Winterberry set the pace under steady pressure and maintained her momentum through solid early fractions. She turned back a challenge from Nata Trouble in the stretch and drew clear late to win by 1¼ lengths, completing the seven furlongs in 1:22.87.

This was Winterberry’s second career stakes win and a strong rebound from her fifth-place seasonal debut in the Star Shoot Stakes. The daughter of Frosted, bred by Anderson Farms Ontario Inc. and purchased for $210,000 as a yearling, now owns two wins from five career starts.

The victory not only highlights her rising status among Ontario’s top sophomore fillies but also sets her up as a major contender for the upcoming $500,000 Woodbine Oaks, scheduled for July 20.
