Cheering Section – Yearling Sales Stakes Preview

The 2025 Yearling Sales Stakes for graduates of the CTHS Ontario sale take place on Sunday, Aug. 24 and there are two races for 2-year-olds, each worth $200,000 and two for older horses offering a $100,000 purse each.
The Simcoe Stakes for 2-year-old colts and gelding at 6 1/2 furlongs on the Tapeta is race 8 on Sunday at Woodbine and there are 10 juveniles entered.
Some of the contenders in the Simcoe were bargain buys such as BIG BOLD AND FIRST, a son of Signature Red who cost $5,000 last year. Mike Cool bought the gelding who won his second career start and already has earnings of over $31,000.
HIGHWAYTOTHEMOON, who figures to be one of the favourites in the Simcoe, was bought back for $20,000 and later purchased by Centennial Farms Inc. Highwaytothemoon, by Ransom the Moon, won his career debut on Aug. 2. He was bred by Shannondoe Farm Farm of James and Janeane Everatt and Arika Everatt-Meeuse.
The Muskoka Stakes for 2-year-old fillies is race 6 and CAYENNE KISS, an impressive debut winner in June, will be one of the favoruites. The Souper Speedy filly was bought by trainer Bill Tharrenos for $15,000 from last year's sale from breeders Gord Colbourne and Box Arrow Farm.
And SIPPING HISTORY, a $45,000 purchase, has already earned over $70,000 for owners Upland Flats Racing and Windways Farm. Trained by James Begg, Sipping History is by Ontario sire Old Forester and she was bred by Kathy Biers and Northern Dawn Stables.
Also on Sunday is the Algoma Stakes at 7 furlongs for 3 and 4-year-old fillies, and the Elgin for 3 and 4-year-old colts and geldings.
