Hiring people who have to relocate - how do you handle housing?
I am not in racing. I work in equipment leasing in Denmark and I read this group because the problem is the same one we have: we hire people who must move, and housing is what kills the offer.
Three things we changed after losing two candidates last spring.
We stopped saying "we will help you find something". Now we send four actual addresses with actual rents before the interview. It costs somebody an hour and it removed most of the negotiation.
We pay the deposit and take it back over ten months. Not generous. A deposit is simply the thing people do not have in cash.
We stopped quoting rent as a range. 1,400 to 1,900 reads as 1,900 to everybody.
The one we still get wrong is the commute. People accept a place and then find out the drive is 50 minutes at 05:30, and by then they have signed.
Do you put housing in the posting itself, or does that scare people off?
Somebody asked me offline how we build the address list, so - three tabs per market. Local classifieds, the municipal register, and for the Gulf, where two of our engineers went, https://emirates.estate/ works because the asking price sits next to how long the unit has been listed. Nothing clever. It stops the candidate thinking we invented the numbers.
