For anyone whose work is seasonal, does buying ever make sense over renting?
The way the season runs, I have never lived anywhere longer than about eight months at a stretch, and I have paid rent in three provinces without ever owning a square foot of anything. Someone I worked with bought a place somewhere warm, rents it out most of the year and stays in it over the winter, and he swears it costs him less than what he used to spend moving around. I cannot work out whether that only adds up if you already have money behind you. For those of you in seasonal work: did you ever manage to buy something, and did you put it where the work is or where you would rather be in the off season?
