Canadian Premier Yearling Sale Average Up 4%

The CTHS Ontario's annual Canadian Premier Yearling Sale recorded its highest average price for a Canadian bred yearling since 2014 at this year's auction held Aug. 27.
There was plenty of hustle and bustle in the pavilion throughout the sale which had 133 yearlings trade for $3,638,000 for an average of $27,353. The media price was $15,000.
The highest price of the sale was the $400,000 bid on the internet for a flashy chestnut colt from the last crop of champion and leading sire Speightstown, consigned by Dan Mooney's Huntington Stud Farm, agent. The ticket was signed by Mike DePaulo, as agent.
The top priced filly was a light grey daughter of Frosted from Spani Lou, by Spaniard, who was consigned by Sherry McLean's Northern Dawn Farm as agent and bought by Michael and Charmaine Langlois of Orillia for $145,000. The Langlois family have only been in racing for less than four years but they bought 2023 Plate winner Paramount Prince at the 2021 yearling sale.
