The second leg of the Canadian Triple Crown is set for Labour Day, September 7, and offers a $400,000 purse.
Mark your calendars! The 91st edition of the Prince of Wales Stakes will take place this September at historic Fort Erie Race Track, where Canada’s best Canadian-foaled 3-year-olds will battle it out across 1 3/16 miles of dirt in pursuit of racing glory.

First run in 1929, the Prince of Wales Stakes has become one of Canada’s most treasured races. Originally inaugurated at Thorncliffe Park in Toronto, it found its permanent home at Fort Erie and, in 1959, became the second jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown, nestled between the King’s Plate and the Breeders’ Stakes.
Over the decades, this race has showcased thrilling performances and unforgettable moments — from legendary Triple Crown champions like New Providence and With Approval, to the rare and remarkable victories that define Canadian racing heritage.
Looking Back at Last Year’s Champion
At the 90th running, Runaway Again surged late under jockey Ryan Munger to claim victory, overtaking the favourite and spoiling Mansetti’s Triple Crown bid in a dramatic finish at Fort Erie.
As we countdown to another thrilling fall showdown, stay tuned — the chase for Canadian racing glory continues!
